Preparation of Research Proposal
Before applying, you must have a detailed research proposal outlining the scope, objectives, methodology, and expected outcomes of the research.
The proposal should also include ethical considerations, particularly how the research will impact participants and the community.
Submit Application to NIMR or COSTECH
Public health and medical research will be submitted to NIMR. COSTECH is for non-medical research. The application should include:
Research Proposal: Detailed and complete, addressing all aspects of the study.
Ethical Clearance: If your research involves human subjects, you’ll need ethical approval from your institution and NIMR or COSTECH.
Curriculum Vitae (CV): For the principal investigator(s), showing qualifications and expertise related to the study.
Funding Information: Details on how the study will be funded, as financial transparency is often a requirement.
Permissions from Local Authorities: If you will be conducting fieldwork, permission from relevant local authorities or community leaders might also be necessary.
Letter of Affiliation: A letter of support from the institution you are collaborating within Tanzania. It's necessary to have a local partner institution or supervisor from a recognized academic or research institution in Tanzania e.g. University of Dar es Salaam or Ifakara Health Institute.
Ethics Review
The Ethics Review Committee (ERC) that will assess the ethical considerations of your research, especially if human participants are involved.
The committee will evaluate the potential risks and benefits of the study to ensure that it aligns with ethical standards.
Application Submission
Submit the application package, including the research proposal and ethics clearance, to the NIMR or COSTECH office.
The office will review the submitted documents, and you might be asked to make revisions or provide additional information.
Wait for Approval
After review, they may approve or deny your research permit application.
If approved, you will receive a formal research permit, which allows you to proceed with the research activities.
Comply with Regulatory Requirements
Once the permit is granted, you must comply with the conditions outlined in the research permit, which may include regular reporting, data management practices, and updates on the progress of your research.
Final Report and Dissemination
After the research is completed, they require a final report, and you may be asked to share your findings with relevant stakeholders or in public forums.
